Rihanna, a worldwide pop star, one of the best -selling artists of all time and has sold over 100 million records worldwide.  She was moreover nominated by the Time Magazine in 2011 as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World”; and now possesses over 50 million followers on media social platforms.

 

Recently, various media have been reporting that Rihanna was being sued by an US jeweler for uploading on Instagram a photo-shopped image of herself onto a picture which shows a glistening diamond necklace from Coronet, and from which she removed the company’s hashtag without consent.

 

Coronet Diamonds, a worldwide patented jewelry brand by Aaron Shum Jewelry who has appointed its US Agent, Carl K Gumpert to exclusively distribute the brand in the North US market since 2012.

 

Aaron Shum Jewelry hereby clears up the misunderstanding on the reportsfrom Apple Daily News and other various web media alleged infringement act of Rihanna.  In this incident, neither Aaron Shum jewelry nor its US Agent file lawsuit against Rihanna over infringement.

 

The incident begins with that Carl K Gumpert paid tribute to the Veterans’ Day with a distinctive image of a Coronet diamond necklace nestled in a V-shape segment of the American flag and posted this image onto Instagram on 11.11.2014.  As later that day, Carl K Gumpert found out that Rihanna has edited the photo without their consent and uploaded it on Twitter and Instagram.  The act has swiftly gained an enormous echo effect on the web that generated 2,695 retweets and 4,523 favorites from Rihanna’s 38 million followers on Twitter and 432,000 likes from Rihanna’s 13 million followers on Instagram respectively.

 

Carl K Gumpert has been in touch with the representatives for the pop star on the grounds of respect to the intellectual property and settle for an apology on Rihanna’s social media platforms that makes it clear Coronet created the image, but have met with stalling tactics.  Carl K Gumpert have made a statement “We love Rihanna and her song.  But her act of visual plagiarism has hurt us”.
